New version of hso and first version of a connection utilityPosted by fli in General, tags: FreeBSD, hsoI’ve uploaded a new version of the hso driver that fixes some minor bugs related to the TTYs. I’ve also added device ID for Option GlobeSurfer iCON 225 after some initial positive feedback. In addition to this I’ve published the first version of a connection utility (called hsod) that creates and maintains a UMTS/HSDPA connection and makes life a lot easier. The utility is still beta and requires some more work, for example I would like it to run in background so that it can be launched from devd when the interface is brought up (ifconfig hso0 up). Both the driver and the connection utility can be found at the hso page. This is a list of AT commands, or actually Hayes commands. This is not a complete list of all commands, instead if focuses mostly on commands that are needed for GPRS/3G/UMTS/HSDPA and a few other more “exotic” commands that aren’t too well known. I wrote this mainly for myself, but I figure other might find it useful as well. A while a go I bought a couple of solar panels from REUK and today I finally got around testing them outdoors (I had previously only tested them indoors with a lamp). These panels are rated at 6V, 250mA which makes them quite perfect for low-power outdoor micro controller applications (sensors for example) if they are combined with a re-chargeable battery (that can be tickled charged). The size of the panels are about 13×13 cm.

Mode switching of Option HSDPA cardsPosted by fli in General, tags: FreeBSD, option, scsi, usbThe newer WWAN (HSDPA/UMTS/3G/whatever) USB devices from Option does not come bundled with CD that carries the drivers, instead they are accessible from a mass storage device, this is marketed as by Option as “ZeroCD”. This also means that the device needs to be “switched” from the storage device to the modem/network interface before it’s usable. Read the rest of this entry »

Behind the scenes of Telias IPTVPosted by fli in General, tags: iptv, kreatel, streaming, telia, verimatrixI ceased messing around with this a long time ago as I no longer have the iptv box in my possession Well, not really behind the scenes. But these are my findings of how Telias IPTV works. The original reason behind this is that I would like to stream the channels to my computers. The base of it all is a series of multicasted UDP streams in the range 239.16.16.0/24, including both the actual channels and box configuration/firmware. The program guide is more or less a normal web side accessed over HTTP. The hardware involved is a Zyxel Prestige 660H Triple Play and the Motorola/Kreatel 1510 STB. To connect to the IPTV service using a normal network one have to hook up the IPTV-port of the Zyxel modem directly to a computer. Sniffing the traffic to/from the STB can be done by simply bridging two interfaces and using the box as normal. It’s also possible to enable the IPTV service on one of the unused ports by reconfiguring the modem (to get two output ports). |
